Course Description:
This is a linear course with 75% final examination. Coursework is worth 25% and is done as 3 written assignments throughout the 2 years. Exams in Listening, Speaking and Reading are taken at the end of Year 11 at either Foundation or Higher level. Throughout the course 4 themes are studied; My World; Holiday Time and Travel; Work and Lifestyle and The Young Person in Society.
How will I learn:
The 4 skills of Listening, Speaking, reading and Writing are studied in class and in sessions with a Spanish speaker. An emphasis is placed on building confidence in spoken Spanish and on developing communication skills using up-to-date coursebooks, ICT and authentic materials.

Throughout the year in Spanish, students have developed their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in the foreign language.
Within the context of the National Curriculum Framework they have looked at words, sentences, texts, listening and speaking and cultural knowledge and contact. All students have had the opportunity to work with a native speaker of Spanish.
They have studied the topics of meeting and greeting, school, family, describing people and home town and local area and have learnt how to express likes and dislikes and justify their opinions.

Students are now a good way into their Spanish GCSE course. They are continuing to consolidate their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in the foreign language.
All students have had the opportunity to work with a native speaker of Spanish to help prepare them for the eventual oral component of their exam. Students are also completing coursework assignments throughout the course and the marks awarded for these pieces of work will count towards their final Spanish GCSE grade.
To date students have studied the topics of school, home town and holidays. Students have learned to use the past and future tenses in more detail, enabling them to include more complex structures in their writing and speaking.
