Uniform Information

Venerable Bede Church of England Academy has a uniform policy.  Details of the uniform are shown below.

Blazer and Tie

The academy blazer and tie must be worn at all times whilst on the academy site, including during lessons and social time, unless a member of staff has given specific permission for the blazer to be removed. The blazer and tie are branded items and must be purchased from the designated supplier. “The school outfit” www.theschooloutfit.co.uk

Shirt

A plain white, collared shirt must be worn, buttoned correctly with the top button fastened and the tie worn to the collar. The shirt must be tucked in at all times.

Trousers

Trousers must be plain black and tailored in fit. The following are not permitted under any circumstances: skin-tight or stretch-fit trousers, flared trousers, jean-style trousers (including black jeans), cord trousers, jogger-style or elasticated-hem trousers, and cropped or turned-up trousers. Trousers must be worn at the waist; low-slung or oversized trousers are not permitted.

Skirts

Where a skirt is worn in place of trousers, it must be plain black, pleated, and worn at knee length. Skirts must not be rolled at the waistband to shorten the length. Skirts must be worn with plain black opaque tights of 80 denier or thicker; patterned, footless or sheer tights are not permitted.

Shoes

Shoes must be plain black, flat and fully enclosed. Trainers, boots, canvas shoes, sports shoes, slip-on shoes and shoes with a heel are not permitted.

Socks

Where trousers are worn, socks must be plain black. Where a skirt is worn, tights should be worn in place of socks, as set out above.

Bags

All pupils must bring a school bag every day, large enough to carry books, folders, equipment and PE kit as needed. Bags must be practical and suitable for school use. Fashion bags, handbags, drawstring/string bags and bags without the capacity to carry a full set of books are not permitted.

General

Alongside the uniform requirements above, the following appearance standards apply to all pupils: no make-up, no jewellery, no nail varnish or false nails, and hair must be a natural colour. Where a pupil needs to wear an item of jewellery for religious or cultural reasons, parents and carers should contact the academy directly so that this can be discussed and agreed in advance.

Any parent or carer needing further support or advice regarding uniform should contact their child’s Head of Year, who will be happy to help.

Where a pupil arrives at school without an item of correct uniform, they will be supported to correct this by borrowing the missing item from the academy’s own uniform stock before going into lessons. Refusal to do so will be treated as a refusal of a reasonable request and addressed under the academy Behaviour Policy.

I would ask that you take the time now to check your child’s uniform against the requirements above and make any necessary arrangements ahead of September. If you have any questions, please contact the Pastoral Office, who will be glad to assist.
